For the last twenty-six years, Ashton School has served the community as a privately owned, independent Dominican/International school offering instruction in English from pre-school through secondary levels, with Spanish instruction in subjects required by MINERD. The school was founded in 1998 with fewer than ten teachers and 35 students in a one-family house, initially serving Kindergarten through third grade. Today, the school serves approximately 497 students in Pre-Kinder through 12th grade and is accredited by Cognia (COGNIA) and recognized by MINERD. The Ashton School was inspired by the educator Sylvia Ashton Warner, who promoted English-language education while respecting local customs and culture. The program is grounded in biblical principles and research-based practices.
ASPAS is the Ashton School Parents Association, the primary mechanism for parental involvement. ASPAS meets monthly with the Head of School and the Development Coordinator on school grounds to plan parent-led activities such as Family Fun Day, Christmas Chocolatada, Dominican Independence and Mother's Day celebrations. It also guides major parent-sponsored investments in the school about every one to two years, including upgrades to the science lab, the indoor cafeteria, and the DREAM Maker Lab, with sample reports available to the community. ASPAS has representation on the Board of Directors and operates with an Executive Council elected for two-year terms.
