Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Founded in 1995, The British School Quito was created under a bilateral agreement signed on 9 June 1995 by the Government of the Republic of Ecuador and Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom. This agreement established the British School with the Foreign Ministry of Ecuador within a broader cultural framework. The school is a registered foundation whose sole purpose is educational. It is a British curriculum school preparing students aged 3-18 for university entrance, with programmes based on the English National Curriculum, including iGCSE in Years 10-11 and the IB Diploma in Years 12-13. The school joined the Orbital Education group in 2014, and in February 2020 hosted TEDx Youth@BSQ.

Community

The school community is international, with students from over thirty countries and 75% of students Ecuadorian. The school celebrates Spanish language and culture alongside the British curriculum and encourages bilingualism from an early age. The Parent Association strengthens community ties by organizing events and fundraising to bring together students, parents and staff, including the Welcome Back Picnic in September, the Christmas Box Campaign, the Bonfire Night and the International Family Fun Day. Funds raised by the PA fund projects that enhance the school experience.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parent Association is a group of parent volunteers who give up their time to support the school and the community. Its main purpose is to organise events and fundraising to strengthen the ties in our community, bringing together students, parents and staff. The PA organises the Welcome Back Picnic in September, the Christmas Box Campaign, the Bonfire Night, and the International Family Fun Day. Funds raised by the PA fund projects that enhance the School experience, such as furniture for the reading area of the Dickens Library. This involvement fosters a welcoming and collaborative school environment.
