Languages taught include German and English. German begins in preschool (age 3) with immersion, and from Grade 2 there are five hours of German per week. English is taught from Grade 5 through Grade 12, with four to five hours per week and additional university-focused English in the second and third year of Bachillerato; TOEFL and Cambridge are also offered. The school operates the International Baccalaureate program (BI) and a German IB track (GIB). Deutsches Sprachdiplom and Cambridge English certifications are available.
The school uses a bilingual teaching model. In Kindergarten, each class has two teachers, one German-speaking and one Spanish-speaking. From 2nd to 3rd grade there is one teacher and an assistant for core classes, with specialized teachers for German, music, art, and physical education. From 4th grade onward, different teachers teach each subject, while English instruction begins in Grade 5.
In preschool the school uses an immersion language method. Colegio Alemán Humboldt de Guayaquil is a German international school offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma alongside a German curriculum and a bespoke program. The school is part of Germany's network of 135 excellence schools abroad, recognized by the German government, and it emphasizes multilingualism and intercultural study. German is taught through immersion across many subjects, with five weekly German classes in secondary and two additional German-taught subjects from 8th grade to support IB requirements; students pursue the Deutsches Sprachdiplom I through an international benchmarking process in 8th grade. English begins in grade five with immersion, with aims for high language proficiency.
