The school offers Coding Club/Robotics, Book Club, Diversity Club, and School Views (School Newspaper). In the Secondary program, clubs expand to Computing, History, Psychology, English, Spanish, Economics, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, and Physics to deepen academic interest outside class. Additional academic clubs in journalism, art, and theater broaden opportunities for inquiry and collaboration.
The Fine Arts Department provides courses in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, music, theater, and dance. Music offerings include General Music for younger students and instrumental/vocal electives such as String Orchestra, Ensemble, Choir, Band, Guitar, and Percussion, with IB DP Music in the upper grades. Visual Arts cover art history, painting, photography, and media production, and include opportunities to exhibit work. The Creative Arts and Innovation Center offers music recording and production facilities, photography and editing tools, and virtual reality experiences to expand creative practice.
The school operates two sections: National and International. The International Section offers English immersion with 85% English and 15% Spanish (with some subjects taught in Spanish, such as Physical Education and Music). The National Section offers bilingual education with 50% English and 50% Spanish. A Diversity Club fosters cultural awareness among students.
Social and hobby clubs include Coding Club/Robotics, Book Club, Diversity Club, and School Views (newspaper). Primary students can join Jewelry Making, Master Chef, Band4Kids, Art Club, Drama Club, Band, Choir, Ensemble, Guitar, String Orchestra, and Percussion, with activities running from 2:45 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. from the second week of September. Secondary offerings expand to Honors Band, Honors Choir, Rock Band, Art/Photography/Design Club, Drama Club, Film/AV Production Club, IB Instrumental Group, Jam Sessions, and multiple ensembles.
Service Learning connects students with local communities through activities such as Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics, embedded in 11th-grade CAS. Projects include Pastoral Cumbayá, Red Cross, Sign Language, Pablo Martin Foundation, Tutoring, Hummingbird Wings Foundation, and Music For Others. In 12th grade, CAS is student-driven and must meet eight learning objectives and a 200-hour service commitment.
The Leadership Program offers Model United Nations (Caminu), which has engaged students in diplomacy and international relations, developing research, public speaking, debate, and leadership. The National Honor Society recognizes high school students for scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Student Council provides a platform for student voice and active involvement in school leadership, fundraising, and community projects. Operation Smile is a student volunteer club partnering with Fundación Operación Sonrisa Ecuador.
The Athletics program offers Track & Field, Volleyball, and Gymnastics as after-school athletic options. Meaningful Traditions such as Carnaval Week, Halloween Activities, Art Expo, and Musical Gala foster community spirit and well-being.
Colégio Americano de Quito is a day school for ages 3–18, offering the International Baccalaureate (PYP, MYP, DP) alongside U.S. college-preparatory standards. It operates two sections: National Section (50% English, 50% Spanish) and International Section (90% English, 10% Spanish). Graduates earn a U.S. high school diploma and an Ecuadorian Bachillerato; the IB Diploma is optional and noted on the transcript. Recognized by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education, the IBO, and Cognia, the school was founded in 1939 and opened in 1940, moving to Carcelén in 1983; a new campus is planned. Facilities include a School Stadium, Secondary and Primary Coliseums, multiple soccer fields, indoor courts, outdoor track, and a weight room. The campus supports robotics and computer laboratories, BYOD from grade 6, a secure Wi‑Fi network, and libraries with print and digital resources. Extracurriculars include coding/robotics, book club, diversity club, and extensive arts and music offerings.
