Facilities Overview

The school has extensive athletic facilities including a School Stadium, Secondary Coliseum (SUM), Primary Coliseum (Sumcito), a Secondary Soccer Field, Primary Soccer Field, Secondary Courts, Secondary Multi-Purpose Courts, and Primary Courts. It also offers two indoor coliseums and an outdoor track and field area, with a weight room available for extracurricular use. The campus supports a modern technology program with robotics and computer laboratories, iPads and Chromebooks, and a Bring Your Own Device policy starting in grade 6. The libraries provide access to current print and digital resources, support information literacy, and promote reading through programs and events. A New Campus is planned as part of the strategic plan to align with the school's mission and vision.

Sports Facilities

The athletics program is supported by over 44 coaches who contribute their expertise and dedication. Students can practice on full soccer fields, two indoor coliseums, and outdoor track and field areas, with access to a weight room as part of extracurricular activities. Athletic facilities include Secondary Coliseum, School Stadium, Secondary Soccer Field, Secondary Courts, Secondary Multi-Purpose Courts, Primary Coliseum, Primary Courts, and Primary Soccer Field.

Academic Facilities

The Technology and Systems Department maintains a state‑of‑the‑art technological platform with robotics and computer laboratories, a secure Wi‑Fi network, iPads and Chromebooks, and resources for access to content. Labs are equipped with Mac and Windows systems, with three computer labs for elementary and four for the high school, plus robotics systems suited to each age group. Classrooms feature interactive screens and secure Wi‑Fi for BYOD, with devices and Google Suite enabling collaboration. The school uses Schoology and Toodle for learning management, and a FCAQ Portal app for parent access and routine administrative functions across departments. The Library program emphasizes information literacy, a broad print and digital collection, and reading initiatives supported by librarians.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Extracurricular activities extend beyond the classroom with clubs such as Coding Club/Robotics, Book Club, Diversity Club, School Views (School Newspaper), Jewelry Making (primary), and Master Chef (primary). Track & Field, Volleyball, and Gymnastics are offered as athletic options. Primary students participate in a range of activities from the second week of September through 3:40 p.m., including Band4Kids, Art Club, Drama Club, Choir, Guitar, String Orchestra, and more. Secondary offerings include Honors Band, Honors Choir, Honors String Orchestra, Rock Band, Art/Photography and Design Club, Drama Club, Film/Audiovisual Production Club, IB Instrumental Group, Jam Sessions, Band, Choir, Ensmble, Guitar, String Orchestra, and Percussion, among others. Colégio Americano de Quito is a day school for ages 3–18, offering the International Baccalaureate (PYP, MYP, DP) alongside U.S. college-preparatory standards. It operates two sections: National Section (50% English, 50% Spanish) and International Section (90% English, 10% Spanish). Graduates earn a U.S. high school diploma and an Ecuadorian Bachillerato; the IB Diploma is optional and noted on the transcript. Recognized by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education, the IBO, and Cognia, the school was founded in 1939 and opened in 1940, moving to Carcelén in 1983; a new campus is planned.
