In 1973, Ruth García Gutiérrez, a passionate educator, founded the ABC Kindergarten in Quito in a house on Avenida Los Shyris. Her aim was to offer the community a personalized learning center for the youngest children, designed to develop each child's academic and personal potential. The school is a 100% International Baccalaureate (IB) school and is part of a select group of 265 IB schools worldwide authorized to offer all three IB programs. It emphasizes English as a second language, with French or Italian as a third language, making it a trilingual school.

Colegio Británico Internacional in Quito is a 100% IB school serving learners from age 3 to 18 and offering PYP, MYP and DP.
