SEK Quito International School is part of the SEK International Institution, which traces its origins to 1892 with the foundation of the San Estanislao School in Madrid. SEK Ecuador opened in 1984. The SEK International Institution began international expansion in the 1980s, opening the first SEK International School in America in 1982 in Santiago, Chile, and expanding to other centers in the region. In 1989 the SEK International Institution was established with management independence from the old schools in Madrid. In 2025 Ms. Mónica Segovia assumed the presidency of SEK and IES, guiding a global vision and educational commitment.
The SEK Quito community participates in global SEK activities, including InterSEK events that unite students from 26 SEK schools for sports and cultural exchange. Green Week introduces young people aged 13 and above to environmental issues and is supported by bilingual staff. Residential summer camps and short courses at St John's International School in Devon are offered as institutional activities. An International English Program with Boca Prep International School provides English-language study, and the network supports bilingual education with official certifications in English and French.
SEK Quito International School delivers the International Baccalaureate continuum for students aged 2 to 18, from preschool through high school, in Quito, Ecuador. The school is bilingual in English and French, with Early Childhood Education taught in English and a starting level of French, Primary Education in English and French, and Secondary Education aligned to IB guidelines. The High School follows the IB continuum (PYP since 2018, MYP since 2011, DP since 1989) and the Diploma Programme supports admission to universities worldwide with scholarships.
