Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule Kairo

The DEO Kairo is a traditional German-Egyptian encounter school and a recognized German international school under the auspices of the German-speaking Evangelical Community in Cairo and across Egypt. It traces a 151-year tradition and is one of the oldest, largest German international schools worldwide. It is committed to the liberal-democratic order and, from its evangelical tradition, aims to be a site of intercultural and interreligious encounter, where affirming one's own cultural and religious identity is key to openness in dealings with others. The school is located on a spacious campus in Dokki near the Nile; in October 2019, the new upper school building was inaugurated by Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, and it features state-of-the-art facilities enabling digital teaching.

BEGEGNUNG: DEO Kairo develops the school as an intercultural and interreligious space for encounter and life, where learning and living are guided by shared values and norms; DEO Kairo engages with society and culture around it. PARTIZIPATION UND SCHULENTWICKLUNG: The school maintains an open and lively community with a cooperative leadership style, teamwork, ongoing professional development, and modern school management that supports school quality; parental involvement and responsibility are welcome and expected. INDIVIDUUM UND GEMEINSCHAFT: It provides space for the development of personality within the community and fosters a school climate in which students, teachers, staff and parents interact with respect and acceptance; it imparts life skills and teaches dialogue and conflict resolution, civil courage and responsibility for society and the environment.

The Elternbeirat (Parent-Teacher Association) is the representation of the guardians of DEO Kairo students and has rights and duties defined by the EBR charter. There are many opportunities for the Elternbeirat to participate in and shape the educational partnership between parents and the school.
