The Lycée Français International Simone de Beauvoir began in 2002 as the Nefertari International School, part of the Nefertari group, with a partnership with Mission Laïque Française (MLF) and an agreement with the French Foreign Affairs Ministry represented by the French Cultural Center in Egypt. It pursued a model balancing the French education system with Egyptian identity, adopting the MLF motto two cultures and three languages and emphasizing English for international relevance. Teaching follows the instructions of both the French Ministry of Education and the Egyptian Ministry of Education, with English taught from the first year of primary and German or Spanish offered from the 5e; the school also provides pathways to IG, American, or IB systems as appropriate. In June 2014, homologation for all levels from kindergarten to lycée was granted by the French Ministry of National Education. In 2019, the school changed its name to Lycée Simone de Beauvoir.
The school engages its community through a range of events and activities. Since 2017, AEFE's Week of French Lycées around the world has featured at the school, including an edition where parents attended a class session during the week of November 28 to December 2. Extracurricular activities are offered every Thursday from 13h20 to 14h20 to promote life in the community, autonomy, and citizenship. The school also hosts orientation-related events such as university presentations at the Salon de l'Etudiant and seasonal offerings like summer camps organized by the Institut Français d'Égypte.
Parent involvement is organized through elected parent representatives who act as a liaison and mediator between families, teachers, and school leadership, and who sit on the school's councils and representative bodies. Parents are elected to these roles each October and participate in the establishment's councils, contributing to the school project and its priorities. In collège and lycée, the class council includes two parent representatives and meets at least three times per year to monitor student progress and discuss orientation, with input from the parent representatives. The education health and citizenship committee (CESC) coordinates actions to assist parents and combat exclusion. There is a Conseil des Parents CDP listing parent members who participate in school governance.
