Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

NCBIS has a dedicated pastoral team that places students' well‑being at the heart of the school. The team uses technology to track daily well‑being and includes fully‑qualified pastoral specialists to listen, support and guide students. A dedicated in‑house behaviour specialist is part of the team. Parent workshops cover topics such as behaviour and transitions between key stages. An active Student Council and a House system enable student leadership and social development.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school provides English as an Additional Language (EAL), booster support and more structured personalised learning plans. An Inclusive Learning team focuses on early identification and intervention to help students access the curriculum from Early Years through IB Diploma. The team works with Educational Psychologists, Speech Language Pathologists and other specialists to deliver bespoke interventions.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is provided within a range of additional and specialist learning programmes. A whole‑school Inclusive Learning team focuses on early identification and intervention for language needs. The school collaborates with outside specialists, including Educational Psychologists and Speech Language Pathologists, for bespoke language interventions.

Mental Wellbeing

A dedicated pastoral team supports student wellbeing and uses technology to track daily wellbeing. The team includes qualified pastoral staff and a dedicated in‑house behaviour specialist. There are parent workshops addressing wellbeing topics. The school recognises mental health and wellbeing within safeguarding guidance and has on‑site Mental Health First Aiders.

Safeguarding

NCBIS has a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy that follows UK guidance (KCSIE 2025 updates). There is a Designated Safeguarding Lead (Sam Hurst) and a Deputy Safeguarding Lead (Charlotte Longmuir), supported by senior leaders. All staff receive safeguarding training and reporting is conducted via CPOMS. The policy provides contact details for the DSL and deputy DSL and covers topics including online safety, missing education and the protection of children.
