Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school emphasizes the dignity and worth of each student and the responsibilities to self and society. It builds a strong foundation for academic achievement, inquiry and critical thinking, personal creativity, and 21st-century skills. The school believes all children are capable of learning and supports each student to reach maximum potential and individual capabilities. The school develops the social skills needed to function in an international society and fosters intercultural understanding and global citizenship. It provides an inclusive, caring learning environment that supports social-emotional development and encourages collaboration among students, families, and staff.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school has an Inclusion Policy that supports learning for all students by addressing individual needs and enabling access to mainstream IB programs. It ensures equality of opportunity for students with special needs and normally provides accommodations within the mainstream setting. The school follows IB inclusion guidelines, differentiates instruction, and uses Individual Education Plans to tailor education for SEN students. Identification and support are systematic: entry assessments, ongoing progress monitoring, learning support coordination, and regular IEP reviews. The Learning Support Centre provides supplementary teaching and coordinates with staff and families; ESL/ESOL support is available. The school adheres to Egyptian ministry regulations and UN conventions promoting inclusive education.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Language is central to learning; all teachers are language teachers and all students are language learners; multilingualism is a resource; mother tongue maintenance is a right. Language of Instruction is English from age 3; Arabic is Language A (mother tongue) from age 3; Additional Languages (French or German) are offered from Grade 1, with self-taught options in DP. ESL/ESOL support is provided during the school day by certified staff; non-native Arabic learners receive tailored Arabic lessons. In PYP, MYP, and DP, English and Arabic serve as Language A, Language B offerings include French or German; non-core language supports intercultural understanding; DP includes options between Arabic and English. Classrooms are language-rich and home language reading is encouraged.

Mental Wellbeing

The school prioritizes mental health and wellbeing as part of inclusive education. The Inclusion Policy states that all pupils with SEND have needs identified to support progression and continued good physical, mental health and wellbeing. The Learning Support Centre collaborates with teachers and counselors to develop individualized plans (IEPs) that address personal skills and wellbeing. Regular meetings among parents, teachers, and specialists monitor progress and adjust plans as needed. The school fosters a supportive environment that promotes social-emotional development and participation in school life.

Safeguarding

The school has safeguarding and child protection measures designed to protect students from harm and neglect. It ensures the safety of students through a balanced curriculum, inclusive practices, and clear roles and responsibilities for staff, parents, and students. Safeguarding oversight involves the Learning Support Coordinator, IB Coordinator, and school leadership, with procedures for reporting concerns and updating families. The school aligns with IB policies and Egyptian regulations to uphold safeguarding standards and regularly reviews its policies to maintain best practices. Partnerships with families and professionals support safeguarding across the school community.
