Tallinn English College was founded in September 1940 as Tallinn Secondary School No 7. It began in the building formerly owned by Tallinn French Grammar School at 3 Hariduse Street, the building completed in 1937, and moved to the new facilities at 10 Estonia Avenue in August 1996. It is the oldest English-language immersion school in Estonia, following the traditions of Anna Tõrvand-Tellmann Private English College, State English College and Tallinn Secondary School No 7. The school comprises three levels: primary school, middle school and college (secondary school). In May 2009 it received IB World School status, the first municipal school in Estonia, with the IB Diploma Programme starting in September 2009; since May 2012 it has been a Candidate school for the IB Primary Years Programme. The school is supported by the Tallinn English College Governing Body and Tallinn English College Foundation.
Tallinn English College is a municipal IB World School in Tallinn that provides English-language immersion for students aged 6 to 18. The school operates a three-level campus on Estonia pst 10; the site opened in 1996 and includes a sports hall completed in 2007. It is the oldest English-language immersion school in Estonia and was the first municipal school to gain IB World School status in May 2009. The Diploma Programme has been taught here since September 2009, taught in English and organized around six subject groups: Studies in language and literature, Language acquisition, Individuals and societies, Experimental sciences, Mathematics, and a sixth subject from Groups 3 or 4. The DP core comprises Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and Creativity, Activity, and Service. Tallinn English College has been a Candidate for the IB Primary Years Programme since May 2012. IB graduates attend universities worldwide without mandatory Estonian national exams. An active extracurricular program is coordinated around CAS, with Arts and Creative, Cultural and Language, and Community and Service clubs.
