In 1964, Emperor Haile Selassie I donated 15 acres of land to a small school to support international and diplomatic communities and to stimulate growth in Addis Ababa and throughout Ethiopia. Formerly the American Community School with ties to the US Embassy, the school was established to support diplomacy and contribute to the development of Ethiopia and Africa. ICS has been and continues to be connected to the growth and prosperity of the host country. Today ICS thrives on the original 15 acres of land, and Addis Ababa is among the largest diplomatic centers in the world, hosting the African Union, the UNDP's Regional Service Centre for Africa, UNECA, and the Africa-European Union Partnership. Our school community represents more than 70 different nationalities and cultures, and ICS aims to partner with Ethiopia, Africa, and the world.
ICS Addis is proud to be a community school. The school community represents more than 80 nationalities. There are several ways to get involved: volunteering with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), partnering in student learning, using school facilities, and attending events.
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) provides volunteer opportunities for parents. Parents can volunteer with the PTO. Parents can partner in student learning through the PTO. Parents can use school facilities through PTO involvement. Parents can attend events organized by the PTO.
