Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The story of the Ecole Bilingue Internationale de Haute-Savoie began in 2009 after a detailed study of the region's bilingual-education needs by Hélène Jager, Dale Wells, and Mathilde Mondongou. They created the association bearing the school's name and opened the first two preschool classes in September 2010, welcoming 19 children, with a move to premises in Parc des Glaisins. From 2009 to 2013 the school grew, opening two new classes each year and reaching a full nursery to CM2 curriculum in 2013 with about 150 students, and moving to Pré de Challes. A second campus opened in 2015; in 2017 the school was awarded the first Cambridge Quality Label; the Secondary School opened in 2018 and moved to Pommaries in 2019; Cambridge recognition followed in 2020 and the two sites were reorganized that year. In September 2024, the college moved closer to the primary school in the Parc des Glaisins, opening two sixth-grade classes with plans to add another class at each level each year, up to 9th grade.

Community

The EBIHS is an independent private school for children aged 3 to 14, run by a non-profit association. The bilingual program begins with total immersion in English in kindergarten, and students can pursue secondary education in either French or English, or benefit from an international curriculum with Cambridge certifications. The school emphasizes holistic development and values such as empathy, open-mindedness, curiosity, tolerance and respect. Community life is supported by extracurricular offerings including the Wednesday Club (a bilingual leisure center on Wednesdays for ages 3 to 11) and the Holiday Club (during school holidays), and by a broader program of clubs, meals and daycare.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Apple Tree Parents Association (ATPA) brings together volunteer parents from all three EBIHS institutions (kindergarten, primary and middle schools). It acts for the well-being of students by supporting educational, sporting and cultural activities, while creating convivial moments for the school community. ATPA's missions include organizing events: Halloween, Christmas, New Year's Eve, Carnival, and other initiatives to strengthen the community and raise funds; developing the EBIHS community spirit: Parents' café, dinners throughout the year; financial support: partial or total contribution to educational projects, school trips, teaching materials and equipment; and representation: parent spokesperson to the school management for ongoing communication. Examples of recent financial actions include school trips and local outings, equipment for school playgrounds and materials, and full or partial funding of sports activities. Activities and events include Halloween and Christmas decorations and product sales, Teacher Appreciation Week, Sports Days, End of year party, ski trips in winter, and other initiatives.

EBIHS is a private school run by a non-profit association in France for ages 3 to 16. It delivers a bilingual French–English education from early years through collège, with three years of English immersion beginning in kindergarten. Grande Section offers French four hours per week and English twenty hours. All collège subjects are taught in both languages, and a third language (Spanish or German) begins in sixth grade. The secondary program follows the French curriculum and prepares students for the Diplôme National du Brevet, while also being a Cambridge school offering B1 and B2 English certificates and the IGCSE. The curriculum includes field trips, stays abroad, and a Learning Center with tailored support. The school operates across campuses. The site spans 1.7 hectares with 5200 square meters of buildings, accommodating 650 students in 32 classes. A future Sunflowers campus will add facilities such as a motor skills room, science lab, library, dining hall, and a bus service.
