Introduction

International School of Montpellier (ISM) is a private bilingual international school in Saint-Clément-de-Rivière, about 10 minutes north of Montpellier. Founded in 2010, it serves children from age 2 to 11 in Nursery and Primary. The school offers a bilingual English-French curriculum with immersion and a Spanish immersion option in Nursery. From First Year onward, English is integrated with instruction delivered by native French and native English teachers, so students study core subjects in both languages. IS Montpellier follows both the French national curriculum and the British national curriculum, and prepares pupils for Cambridge assessments such as Starters, Movers and Flyers. The school is part of the IBS Group and operates as a Cambridge exam centre. Facilities include a park-like campus, a courtyard extension, a new laboratory and an activity room, with a sports field planned. Class sizes are small, around 15 pupils, and progress is reported regularly to parents annually.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school pursues the full development of each child in a caring environment that encourages them to be brave, achieve, and explore their creativity. The well-being of students is a priority, and they are supported to feel safe, confident and capable. The program provides a framework to develop intellectual learning, artistic and athletic skills, social relationships and openness to the world. Through play, observation and exploration, curiosity is nurtured and a love of learning grows. Small class sizes—about 15 pupils per class—allow individualized support and educational differentiation to ensure the success of all students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Small class sizes (about 15 per class) enable individualized support. Educational differentiation is used to meet the needs of all students. The school provides a framework to encourage intellectual learning as well as social relationships and openness to the world. From kindergarten, teachers guide children to live serenely in a community and to follow the rules of socialization. The program emphasizes well-being and fulfillment as part of students' development.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Classes are taught bilingually in English and French. Starting in First Year (GS), learning English is fully integrated, with exchanges among children of different nationalities. Each class has two teachers, one native French and one native English. The week is shared between the two languages, with immersion in both languages, including two days in French and two days in English with full immersion. The class sizes are small, about 15 students per class. This bilingual approach supports language development and academic continuity.

Mental Wellbeing

The school aims to ensure the well-being of students and to support their development. It seeks to help students feel safe, confident and capable within a nurturing community. The environment emphasizes confidence in oneself, teamwork and happiness in studying. Small class sizes support individualized attention and emotional support. The school fosters social inclusion and positive relationships as part of daily school life.
