Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The European School was founded in 2007 and began with pre-school to ninth grade to provide English-language primary and secondary education. In 2009 it was authorized to teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) and became an IB World School; the Middle Years Programme (MYP) followed in 2012 and the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in 2016. In 2022 the school was authorized to offer the IB Career-related Programme (CP), becoming the first and only full continuum IB World School in the region with all four IB programmes. The school was accredited by the Georgian Ministry of Education and Sciences in 2010 and re-authorized in 2016 and 2022; in 2019 it became the first CIS-accredited school in Georgia. Today it educates more than 1,800 students from 36 nationalities, offering classes from kindergarten to 12th grade.

Community

The European School organizes a broad calendar of community events, including TEDx conferences (hosted eleven times), Astrid Lindgren's Week, the MasterChef cooking competition, and the European School Classical Music Festival. It also hosts the Talent Show, the My School (New Year Is Coming) student art exhibition, the Iviko Chelidze Soccer Tournament, and the Golden Butterfly International Student Movie Festival, fostering creativity and cross-cultural engagement. Europe Day celebrations and a New Year Charity Fair further involve the school community in cultural exchange and charitable work.

Parent-Teacher Association

The PTA aims to enhance the experiences and welfare of students and parents at the European School. Its objectives include encouraging parental involvement in events, strengthening relationships among parents, students, staff, leadership and the board, and facilitating information flow between parents and administration. The PTA supports the community by planning social and fundraising events that promote a sense of community and raise funds to enhance educational opportunities. PTA meetings are held twice a semester and every enrolled parent is automatically a member; a PTA Committee is elected each school year and there are four committees—IB, ASAS, Georgian Programme, and European Kindergarten—each led by a Chairperson for one year. There are many ways to get involved, and coordinators can be contacted for more information.
