The Europe Branch is a State Europe School (SESB) offering English-German instruction. The aim is to teach German- and English-speaking children together, with classes ideally consisting of 50 percent German mother tongue and 50 percent English mother tongue students. English mother tongue teachers contribute language and culture, and students read and write in their mother tongue while developing the partner tongue through games and creative activities; reading and writing in the partner tongue begins in year two. The Europe Branch is an all-day school with attendance from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. English-taught subjects include English mother tongue, English partner tongue, Environmental Studies (years 1-4), History/Citizenship (years 5-6), Geography (years 5-6) and Science (years 5-6); German-taught subjects include German mother tongue, German partner tongue, Maths, Ethics and Religion, while Art, Music and Sport are taught in either language and French is offered as a foreign language in years 5-6.
The school supports social skills and community through democratic education, the student parliament, and social-pedagogical work, including projects for EU grades 5 and 6 and support for transitions to subsequent schools.
The Europe Branch implements German–English bilingual education with native English-speaking teachers; classes are designed so that roughly 50 percent of students are German-speaking and 50 percent English-speaking, and students learn to read and write in both mother tongue groups; English is taught by native speakers in subjects and as a separate language; French is offered in years 5–6.
A School Social Worker provides confidential counselling and support, including individual counselling, accompaniment to appointments, referrals to counselling centres, and social-pedagogical reporting; the service supports newly arrived families and works to prevent or respond to endangerment, with anti-bullying and democratic education initiatives.
Child protection and school absenteeism are addressed; safeguarding aims to protect children from harmful situations by early identification of endangerment, strengthening children's rights, and coordinating with parents, educators, and external agencies.
1. Registration for New Pupils joining First Class (Year 1) includes an OPEN Day on Saturday September 20 from 10.00 to 13.00. The school admits children who have English or German as their native language. Teachers meet with each child to assess their present stage of language development before admission. All children are required to have at least a passive understanding of the English language.
2. The registration period for the coming school year is from October 6 to October 17, 2025, Monday to Friday from 9:00–11:30 a.m. on site at the school. No registrations will be accepted before the registration period set by the Senate. You do not need a special appointment to register, you can simply drop by during the period.
3. Registration for transferring pupils (Classes 2-6) is accepted continuously. To register a child, go to the child's allocated school and fill out an Umschulungsantrag. You need the stamp from the other school on the transfer application. Bring the application, the child's birth certificate, and your identification card or address registration; copies of all required documents are required because the school cannot photocopy documents.
4. Please fill in the registration forms completely in clear, legible writing. Only fully completed application forms with all required documents can be accepted. Partially completed forms will not be accepted.
5. It is not possible to download the registration form. Applications for Charles-Dickens as second choice can only be considered if spaces are available. Registration forms cannot be accepted before the official registration dates.
6. You are personally responsible for registering your child; the allocated primary school will not do this for you. This applies to both first-class and transfer registrations. Ensure you present yourself during the official dates and times.
7. When accepted at the Berlin Europe Schools (SESB), sign a declaration which can be downloaded below. This includes the Declaration of Consent and information about personal data collection. The declaration must be signed for compliance with SESB requirements.
