The International Montessori School Berlin is housed in Landhaus Oppenheim in Wannsee, between water and forest, about 5 minutes from Wannsee station. The school is international and bilingual, with German taught alongside English from grade 1 through language immersion. The school serves grades 1–6 and has around 120 pupils in a state-recognised primary school. All learning groups have their own rooms designed to feel like the children's living space, with Montessori materials attractively laid out on open shelves within easy reach. Children can choose where to work—in learning group rooms, the corridor outside, the art room, the movement room (Hengstenbergraum) or the library. The rooms include libraries and workstations, and each teaching room features a circular carpet for class councils. The school offers all-day care from 7:30 to 18:00.
The school relies on Montessori education, valuing hands-on learning and student independence. Montessori materials are attractively laid out on open shelves, within easy reach so children can select and carry them to their workspace. Each learning group has its own room with bookshelves along the walls, libraries, and distributed workstations, plus a circular carpet for class councils. Children are free to choose where they work—within learning group rooms, the corridor, the art room, the movement room (Hengstenbergraum) or the library—creating a living-space feel in the classroom. Landhaus Oppenheim houses IMS and has been its home since 2013 after careful restoration, located between wooded areas and the lake in Wannsee. The program includes language immersion, teaching German and English from grade 1.
The school offers a range of after-school activities and all-day options from 7:30 to 16:00 or 18:00, with a focus on forest and nature education due to the Wannsee location. Afternoon activities include forest afternoons, movement games, a media club, a creative workshop and a school garden group, plus daily workshops such as Choir for Kids, theatre, dance and taekwondo, and a group that looks after leaf-cutting ants. Many activities run after 4 pm, including football, chess, a media club and a school newspaper club, with supervision from pedagogical staff. External partners provide additional offers like sailing, piano/guitar/flute lessons, tennis and a wood workshop, with fee-based contracts directly with providers. The current afternoon programme is regularly updated to meet pupil needs. Nature and forest education is a central focus, with regular forest trips, garden activities and picnics.
The International Montessori School Berlin (IMS Berlin) is a state-recognised primary school for grades 1–6, located in Landhaus Oppenheim in Wannsee. The campus sits between water and forest and offers an all-day program from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with education and care. The English-language Cambridge framework underpins the curriculum, and Cambridge Certificates are available for eligible students, issued by Cambridge University. Language immersion and bilingual learning extend across the school, and the site offers on-site forest and nature education. Learning spaces are designed to feel like living areas, with Montessori materials on open shelves and children choosing their work. Extracurriculars include forest afternoons, theatre, choir, taekwondo, a school garden group, and partnerships for sailing and music lessons. The campus includes a bilingual Kinderhaus Wannsee.
