Every Wednesday, learning partners in Secondary Years spend the morning on personal development, focusing on Approaches to Learning, career development, Creativa, Learn Atelier periods and coaching sessions. Learners work with a personal coach to explore dreams, passions and talents and set personal goals. Learn Atelier periods provide structured time for independent work in a university-like environment, with coaching to support autonomous learning. The approach integrates social and emotional development with academic progress.
Creativa is part of the Personal Development Programme, supporting creative work during secondary-year activities. Learn Atelier periods provide time for independent, creative work. Coaching helps learners develop their creative talents.
English is the language of instruction. The German language programme serves both native and non-native German speakers. An English as a Second Language programme (ESL) is offered within Primary Years to support non-native English speakers.
The ISN Community includes learning partners and staff from more than 20 countries and five continents. Expatriate families benefit from a social network that eases integration into a new location. The school offers an After-School Activities Programme with a wide range of activities. The community is described as diverse, open-minded and caring, with a focus on the holistic development of each learner.
ISN offers the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award program. The bronze level lasts a minimum of six months and includes four sections: Service, Skills, Fitness and Expedition. Each section requires about four hours of activities per month, with a minimum of 13 hours for the bronze and 26 hours for the major section. The programme challenges learners to set personal goals and develop social responsibility, self-confidence, fitness and teamwork.
ISN's Personal Development Programme includes a personal coach for each learning partner to help explore dreams, passions and personal goals. Educators act as coaches within a coaching culture rather than traditional teachers. Learn Atelier periods provide structured time for independent work and autonomous learning, supported by a personal coaching system. Approaches to Learning and career development are integrated throughout the week to prepare learners for lifelong learning and future careers.
ISN emphasizes social and emotional development as part of its educational approach. The Duke of Edinburgh Award includes Fitness and Expedition components that promote physical activity and outdoor challenges. The school also runs an After-School Activities Programme with a wide range of activities. Coaching and Learn Atelier periods support learners in developing independent study and well-being.
