Two languages of instruction are German and English. English is taught through immersion; content is presented in English with a 'one person, one language' principle. Reading and writing literacy is taught in German first, and children gradually increase their use of English. Integration of language and culture groups offers mother-tongue lessons and country studies; currently French, Spanish, and Greek are available.
German and English are the two languages used in instruction. Bilingual learning and CLIL is central at Jan-Amos-Comenius-Grundschule. The program is supported by the University of Eichstätt's Department of English Didactics, led by Prof. Dr. Heiner Bf6ttger, with advisory input and ongoing evaluations. Evaluations of the bilingual approach show that the two-language teaching model works effectively at JACG.
English is delivered via an immersion method, treated as a language bath. In each class, one teacher speaks only English and the other only German. Lessons are scaffolded with visuals, gestures, and movement to gradually increase active English use, while initial literacy is taught in German. The immersion approach supports bilingual development across subjects.
Jan Amos Comenius Grundschule (JACG) is a four-year private, state-recognized primary school in München-Pasing that follows the Bavarian curriculum with a German-English bilingual program. Ages 6 to 10. The school adds a dedicated Europa subject that explores family origins and broader European contexts. In every classroom three adults—one German-speaking teacher, one English-speaking teacher, and a Ganztagsbetreuung paraprofessional—support learning, with English instruction delivered through immersion; English instruction becomes formal in Grade 3, and the same teacher speaks English or German throughout the lesson. JACG is part of Münchner Schulstiftung – Ernst von Borries. Facilities include an extended day from 8:30 to 16:00, with before-school care from 7:30 and after-school care until 18:30; a warm noonday meal and recess snacks. GTB offers a rotating program with sports, theatre, music, and creative projects. On-site mother-tongue instruction in languages such as French, Spanish and Greek supports language and culture. A pupil leadership program, called Paten, fosters mentoring of younger students.
