Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

QSI International School of Münster opened in 2015 after a 2014 investigation prompted by the German Netherlands Corps (GNC) to provide an English-speaking international school in Münster. It opened under the direction of Mr. Matthew Farwell to serve children ages 3-18 from expatriate families affiliated with the GNC, and later welcomed German families with international employment. The school gained accreditation from the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges in 2016, enabling graduates to hold a U.S.-accredited high school diploma. Since 2016 the population has grown and the school has served families from 15 countries; the first graduating class was in 2016, and 19 graduates have completed the program to date.

Community

With over 50 students from more than 10 nationalities aged 3-18, QSI Münster is committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment. Admissions are open to students aged 3 to 18 who seek an international education that prepares them for return to home countries or for future international postings, with some German nationals able to join depending on family circumstances. The community includes a Parent Support Group (PSG) that supports families and keeps the school connected. Events such as the annual School Picnic and International Day involve parents and showcase cultural demonstrations.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parent Support Group (PSG) plays a central role in the QSI Münster community, working to enhance communication among parents and between parents and the school, organizing educational and social events, and assisting teachers to maximize instructional time. The PSG follows the QSI handbook's goals to enrich the regular classroom curriculum, promote fund-raising to obtain items or services the school might need, and develop events that involve students and the local community. PSG meetings typically occur on the first Tuesday of each month at 08:30 after the Director's Coffee. Typical PSG activities have included a Family Welcome Picnic, a Winter Market fundraiser, school swag, Class 'Home Parents' roles, and Teacher Appreciation Week.
