Admissions

How to apply, waitlist information, and financial support

Admissions Process

1. The school has two enrollment tracks: the bilingual European School track (SESB) and the regular monolingual track. You may enroll your child in both tracks by submitting separate Aufnahmeanträge for SESB and for the Regelzweig. The regular track does not include the bilingual instruction of the SESB classes. 2. For children starting in first grade, the enrollment process is more complex; enrollment for school entry is detailed in the guidance for new pupils. The enrollment period requires personal submission during the period, at the catchment school and the first-choice school, with the enrollment documents handed in in paper form. If your family has moved or will move, different deadlines apply. 3. When emailing, attach only a PDF file if possible, as we cannot open documents from Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar services. 4. The Aufnahmeantrag must be signed by both parents or legal guardians. If a signature cannot be provided (e.g., due to sole custody), relevant court documents not older than six months at the time of application must be submitted; in the case of a deceased parent, a copy of the death certificate must be provided. 5. Enrollment is possible all year round, but a school change around half-year or at the start of a new school year (approximately February or August/September) is recommended. The school will check whether a place is available for your child, and patience is requested until contact is made. 6. The school does not provide information about the status of your application; you should wait to be contacted. 7. When a place becomes available for your child, the secretary's office will contact you promptly to schedule a language test at the school; online language testing is not possible. 8. Your registration is valid only for the school year for which you registered (the current year and at most the following year) and must be actively renewed by you. 9. Registration is governed by a checklist of documents: a copy of the child's birth certificate; copies of the guardians' ID documents or passports; a copy of the last school report (if the child already attends school); a copy of proof of measles vaccination; proof of residency (Berlin residents provide a current registration for both parents and the child; non-Berlin residents provide a note about the planned move – a Berlin registration must be obtained as soon as possible, at least one day before school starts). If the school is not the catchment school, provide the form for change of school; for the first grade, a copy of the transfer forms may be required.

Waitlist

Registration is possible all year round; a school place is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. When a place becomes available, the secretary's office will contact you as soon as possible to arrange a language test at the school. An online language test is not possible. The school does not provide ongoing status updates about your application; please wait for contact.

Quentin Blake Grundschule is a state primary school in Berlin offering two concepts: the Regular Primary Branch and the Bilingual European School Branch (SESB). The SESB provides integrated bilingual instruction in English and German from grade 1, with roughly half of the class speaking English and half German. From grades 5 and 6, Science, History and Geography are taught in English, while Mathematics remains in German; French is introduced in grades 5 and 6. The Regular Branch follows Berlin Senate guidelines, with a fixed timetable and a half-day model (8:00–14:25) and optional care before or after class. The school operates on a shared campus with the Biesalski Förderzentrum, and facilities include a four-hectare schoolyard, a sport hall (Aula), libraries, a grand-piano music room, a Mensa, and a teaching kitchen. The Erasmus+ program, the UNITED IN DIVERSITY theme, and after-school clubs foster intercultural learning. Open House Day and libraries are strengths.
