Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

The school offers curriculum-supplementary after-school clubs (AGs). The AG range includes sports such as tennis, spikeball and karate, as well as chess, Tech4Girls, instrument lessons, and other languages. An Erasmus club provides opportunities to engage with European partner schools on topics like acceptance, citizenship and equality, with a pupil exchange planned for the future. AGs take place on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30 pm, and first graders begin AG participation from the second school year.

Arts and Creative

Instrument lessons are offered as after-school clubs. AGs also support language-learning opportunities alongside musical activities. The Erasmus Club provides intercultural projects with European partner schools. AGs take place on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30 pm, with first graders joining from the second school year.

Cultural and Language

The Erasmus Club provides intercultural exchanges with European partner schools, focusing on acceptance, citizenship and equality. AGs include language-learning opportunities beyond the regular lessons. The German and English Libraries are privately funded by the Förderverein and open to all pupils and families; the English Library has more than 10,000 books and other media, and the German Library has more than 1,500 books. The libraries are staffed for library lessons, and parents can use the libraries on Fridays until 5 pm.

Social and Hobbies

The AG program includes sports such as tennis, spikeball and karate, as well as chess and Tech4Girls. In addition, instrument lessons and language-learning opportunities are offered. The Erasmus Club enables intercultural collaboration with European partner schools. AGs take place on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30 pm, with first graders joining from the second school year.

Community and Service

The Förderverein finances and maintains the English Library and German Library, hires native English-speaking staff to assist in AGs and lessons, funds IT support, and helps improve playground equipment. It publishes the yearbook, coordinates school merchandising, supports school festivals and events, and much more. Membership or donations support projects beyond state funding.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Hort provides before- and after-school care with three modules: Early (6:00–7:30 am), Middle (1:30–4:00 pm), and Late (4:00–6:00 pm). To use Hort, a Bedarfsschein voucher from the Youth Welfare Office must be obtained, and attendance is tracked with sign-in and sign-out procedures. The school offers a comprehensive holiday programme through its independent provider; details are available via the provider.

Quentin Blake Grundschule is a state primary school in Berlin offering two concepts: the Regular Primary Branch and the Bilingual European School Branch (SESB). The SESB provides integrated bilingual instruction in English and German from grade 1, with roughly half of the class speaking English and half German. From grades 5 and 6, Science, History and Geography are taught in English, while Mathematics remains in German; French is introduced in grades 5 and 6. The Regular Branch follows Berlin Senate guidelines, with a fixed timetable and a half-day model (8:00–14:25) and optional care before or after class. The school operates on a shared campus with the Biesalski Förderzentrum, and facilities include a four-hectare schoolyard, a sport hall (Aula), libraries, a grand-piano music room, a Mensa, and a teaching kitchen. The Erasmus+ program, the UNITED IN DIVERSITY theme, and after-school clubs foster intercultural learning. Open House Day and libraries are strengths.
