Introduction

Experimental General Lyceum of the University of Macedonia is a small secondary school in Neapolis, Thessaloniki within the Strebenióti Camp complex. History
The Experimental General Lyceum of the University of Macedonia was founded in 2000 by ministerial decision of the Ministers of National Education and Religious Affairs, and began operating in the 2001-02 school year with six classes. It currently serves about 150 students and employs 16 teachers. In October 2011 it participated in the Ministry of Education's evaluation of experimental schools, ranking first in Thessaloniki and second in Greece, and was designated a Model Experimental school under the new framework of Law 3966/2011. In the 2012-13 school year it was positively reevaluated and, under Article 10 of Law 4327/2015, remained an Experimental school with admissions by lottery for vacancies arising from graduates of the Experimental Gymnasium of the University of Macedonia. The school is housed in the premises of the former Unified Multidisciplinary Lyceum of Thessaloniki, in Strebenióti Camp, Neapolis, and includes six teaching rooms, a library, information technology and physics-chemistry laboratories, an amphitheater, and shares the gym with other schools in the complex.

Community
Groups (clubs) were formed starting in 2012-2013 to develop students' talents across mathematics, sciences, languages, literature, theatre, and sports. These groups meet one or two times per week from 14:30 to 16:00, with 11–20 students per group, and a student may attend up to two groups. The school runs remedial/enrichment teaching and various programs (European, cultural, environmental, and health education and career guidance). It participates in many student competitions (poetry, literature, mathematics, informatics, economics-entrepreneurship, physics, chemistry, biology, cinema, eTwinning) and achieves numerous distinctions. The school also takes part in school athletic competitions with many team and individual distinctions. Over 15 years of operation, about 600 students have graduated, and most have followed personal and professional paths successfully, applying what they learned at the school.
