Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

Academic progression is supported by the Study Office, which helps students choose suitable university programs in Greece and abroad and guides them through the admissions process. The Office collaborates with credible organizations such as the British Council, the German Academic Exchange Service, the French Institute, the Dutch Institute, the Italian Institute and Fulbright to provide information and opportunities and to assist with applications abroad. It organizes events and talks that connect students with university representatives and professionals, and it maintains alumni information to support current applicants. The program is integrated with the school's broader college preparation through the International Baccalaureate and emphasizes 21st‑century skills—collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity—as essential to academic development.

Arts and Creative

The school offers a range of creative and artistic programs, including Classical and Modern Dance, Ceramics and Visual Arts, Handicrafts, Chess and Robotics. The Music School provides instruction in instruments (piano, organ, classical and electric guitar, violin, accordion, flute), music theory (solfège), Orff-based music education and Byzantine chant. Open Creative School groups support cinema and theatre activities, and there are additional offerings such as a Literary Workshop, a Photography Group and other arts initiatives. These programs cultivate artistic expression beyond the standard curriculum.

Cultural and Language

Culture at the school engages students in choir, orchestra, theatre, social action groups, forensics, and a United Nations Model group. Students participate in international symposiums and interact with peers from other countries, exchanging ideas and cultural perspectives. Writers and scientists are invited for talks, and educational visits to museums, galleries and cultural sites are organized, along with art exhibitions and conferences. The Geitonas School Library, founded in 2000, functions as a modern information and media center with extensive multilingual holdings, supports reading and information literacy, and is a member of the Greek Libraries Network using an online catalog. The Library's collection exceeds 29,000 titles in multiple languages, and its services are guided by UNESCO/IFLA principles. The Alumni Association provides career support and scholarship opportunities for graduates, and the school participates in UNESCO ASPnet as part of its cultural and global‑citizenship activities.

Social and Hobbies

A broad program of educational actions and clubs broadens social and hobby activities beyond class time. Forensics, MUN and EYP develop public speaking, debate and diplomacy, with participation in national and international competitions. Other activities include a Literary Workshop, a Biotech Student Group, UNESCO ASPnet projects, an environmental group called “Green Neighborhood,” and a theatre group, plus choirs, orchestras, and a photography group. These clubs and events are designed to enrich student life and community engagement.

Community and Service

The Alumni Association (SAEG) connects graduates with the school and supports career development, postgraduate scholarships and alumni networking, including an alumni magazine and extracurricular activities such as volleyball, theatre and traditional dance. The school also runs cultural and civic initiatives through programs like UNESCO ASPnet and environmental projects such as the Green Neighborhood group, which promote community involvement and service learning.

Leadership and Professional

Geitonas' IBDP curriculum highlights leadership and professional opportunities beyond the classroom, including Forensics, MUN and EYP, with participation in national and international conferences and performances. The school runs a Work Experience Program (PR.A.E.R.E.M.) that connects students with real workplaces across many fields and invites parental involvement to host apprentices. A dedicated Career Orientation framework supports students from early Lyceum through IB, with talks by professionals, university information sessions and industry visits to help students identify interests and future directions.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Athletic activities are offered as part of the school life, including self‑defense (karate and ju‑jitsu), volleyball, artistic gymnastics, swimming, fencing, basketball, football, rhythmic gymnastics, track and field, tennis, water polo and cheerleading, with separate traditional dance and other wellness activities. Summer programs provide additional physical and educational experiences, such as swimming, fencing, archery, rock climbing, tennis, rhythmic gymnastics and STEAM activities, along with organized day trips to beaches and other venues for recreation and learning.
