Language Provision

Language learning opportunities and multilingual education

Language Provision

Greek and English are core languages of instruction; French, German and Spanish are also taught. English is introduced from Nursery in the Greek Programme (two hours per week, three hours per day in the Bilingual Programme, where it is taught as a native language). A third language is introduced in the 3rd grade of Primary School, with French or German offered (3 hours per week in 3rd grade and 4 hours per week in 4th). The language policy emphasizes multilingualism and the opportunity to master at least two languages at mother tongue level.

Bilingual Teaching

Platon School offers Greek-English Bilingual Classes from Preschool to the 1st grade level of Lyceum. The programme is supervised and certified by the IB (International Baccalaureate). English is taught as a native language by native-speaking teachers, and children are taught for about half their school hours in English.

Immersion Programs

Partial Immersion Programme: Nursery, Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten receive English instruction for 3 hours per day; Primary School, Gymnasium and the 1st grade Lyceum receive 15 hours per week of English. A Third Language is introduced in the 3rd grade of Primary School (French or German), and a Trilingual Programme allows exposure to an extra language from 1st grade with further progression in 3rd and 4th grades.
