Georgetown International Academy was founded in 1971 and has served the international community in Georgetown, Guyana for over 50 years as a U.S. Department of State-assisted American overseas school.

Georgetown International Academy (GIA), founded in 1971, is one of 193 American Overseas Schools assisted by the U.S. Department of State. The school serves students from Pre-K through High School. It is an IB Candidate School and offers AP courses at the high school level. The school is accredited by NEASC and is a Tri-Association member. GIA has a gymnasium, a design lab, performing and visual arts programmes, a band programme, and a library. A cafeteria, health services, and counseling are available. A uniform policy is in place. Scholarships are awarded annually.
