Uniforms are required for all students. Boys wear blue pin-striped slacks with a white polo shirt embroidered with the school emblem; girls wear a blue pin-striped knee-length jumper with a tucked-in white polo shirt embroidered with the emblem; House shirts are worn on House days. The P.E. uniform is navy-blue shorts, a white T-shirt, and tennis shoes, with no canvas-style shoes allowed.
The AST Dining Hall provides meals for students, staff, alumni, and visitors. Breakfast is served 7:00–10:30, and lunch and dinner are served 10:30–7:00; the dining hall is open Monday through Friday 7:00–7:30 pm and Saturdays 8:00–3:30 pm, offering a variety of options including Honduran breakfast items, cereals, salads to go, paninis, burgers, pizza, soups, and more. Catering is available for events.
The school has a House system. Each student is assigned to one of 12 houses in 1st grade and remains in that house through their AST experience, with house activities and points used to promote collaboration and character education. House names include Zotz, Balam, K'nich Ajaw, K'uk'ulkan, K'awiil, Chaak, Pauahtun, Ix Sak, Witz, Itzam Ye, Yax Balam, and Yum Kaax, with corresponding house colors.
The school is incorporated with the Honduran Ministry of Education and with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The owners are SEIT (Sociedad Educacional Interamericana de Tegucigalpa), a parents' organization represented by a Board of Directors.
Founded in 1946, AST is one of Honduras' original bilingual schools serving students from 39 nations across four divisions. The institution offers a college-preparatory curriculum emphasizing global citizenship, with high school students earning up to three diplomas including the IB qualification.
