Let the school know you're thinking of applying — they can share their prerequisites and help you through the process.
It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
1. Application Submission
Families apply online through the ESF central admissions system, which handles applications for all ESF schools, including Beacon Hill. An application fee is required at the time of submission. Applicants must upload supporting documents such as proof of residence, birth certificate, and school reports.
2. Application Review and Screening
ESF Admissions reviews the submitted documents and determines whether the student is eligible for placement at an ESF primary school. Placement is primarily based on the student’s residential zone and availability of spaces within the catchment area.
3. Assessment and Interview
Eligible applicants may be invited for a language and readiness assessment or an informal interview. This step ensures that the student can access the English-medium curriculum effectively. The school does not disclose specific assessment formats or scoring criteria.
4. Offer of Place and Deposit Payment
If a place is offered, parents receive an official offer letter via ESF Admissions. To secure the place, families must pay a refundable deposit, which will be applied toward the first term’s tuition.
5. Enrolment and Orientation
Once the deposit is received, the school confirms enrolment. New families are invited to an orientation session to meet teachers, receive uniform and school supply information, and review school policies. Students officially begin at the start of the next available school term.
Beacon Hill School, through ESF, operates a waitlist system rather than a pool or lottery model. When all year group places are filled, eligible applicants are placed on a waitlist managed centrally by ESF Admissions. Priority may be given to siblings of current ESF students and children of full-time ESF staff. Waitlist movement depends on withdrawals and available places in the student’s residential catchment area. There is no separate “pool” system for applications.
The school does not offer scholarships at the primary level.
Beacon Hill School (BHS) is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) for Years 1–6. The campus sits in Kowloon Tong with convenient access from Kowloon Tong MTR (Exit D) and minibus 29B. BHS enrolls about 540 students across three forms, and the Principal is Dr. Jamie Schmitz. Learning is inquiry-driven through the PYP, with English as the medium of instruction and a structured Mandarin programme—three 45-minute language lessons plus a cultural session weekly in Years 1–2, and five 45-minute language lessons weekly in Years 3–6, organised by proficiency pathways. Students engage in Outdoor Learning through field trips and community initiatives, and extra-curricular experiences highlighted on the site include arts, sports (e.g., girls’ football), and student leadership via Student Council. The school emphasises inclusion and wellbeing, supported by a dedicated Inclusion team and therapists.
