Carmel School was founded in 1991 as Hong Kong’s first Jewish Day School. It began with a small group of families committed to providing a Jewish and international education. Over time, the school expanded into three campuses covering early years, primary, and secondary. The Elsa High School section opened in 2009, offering the IB MYP and DP alongside the WASC-accredited high school diploma.
Carmel School emphasizes community involvement across academic, cultural, and religious life. The calendar highlights festivals such as Purim with catwalks and carnivals, as well as student-led performances and service activities. Families are actively engaged, and community gatherings help strengthen the connection between school and home.
The Carmel School PTA plays an active role in school life. It coordinates Class Parents and volunteers, supports events such as the Annual Dinner, and organizes social and educational programs for parents. The PTA also hosts its own Annual General Meeting (AGM) and has representation on the School Board, giving parents a voice in governance. Events and initiatives often include collaboration with staff to enhance student experiences both in and out of the classroom. Parents are encouraged to participate in activities that build strong links across the school community.
Carmel’s Elsa High School Campus (Grades 6–12) delivers the IB MYP and DP in a Jewish international setting on Hong Kong Island’s east side, at Shau Kei Wan. Students progress through the MYP (Grades 6–10) to the DP (Grades 11–12), with IB subjects that include multiple Language A choices and Language Acquisition options in French, Hebrew, Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, and Italian. The school highlights STEAM and robotics, with a dedicated space and programme, and offers extensive co-curriculars such as music, drama, debate, and rehearsals for the Elsa Musical. Service features throughout the MYP via Service & Action, including local and international opportunities. Carmel’s graduates and DP outcomes are profiled on the school site, and the high school diploma is WASC-accredited. The campus is served by City School Bus Service Limited, with pick-up/return details published for families.
