Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) was founded in 1990 and officially opened to students in 1991. It was established as a non-profit, private, independent school governed by a Board of Governors. Over the years, the school has grown from a small student body to more than 2,100 learners across two campuses. The Early Years Centre opened in 2024 at THE SOUTHSIDE to accommodate younger learners and expand provision on Hong Kong Island’s south side.
CDNIS fosters community connections through service learning and global engagement initiatives, including Local & Global Engagement programmes. The school also holds cultural events such as Chinese New Year celebrations and Mid-Autumn Festival activities, often supported by parent volunteers. Alumni gatherings, including Homecoming events, bring together former students from different graduating classes to maintain ties with the school.
CDNIS has an active Parent Association (PA) that helps organise school-wide events and cultural celebrations. Parents regularly volunteer to support festivals such as the Mid-Autumn Festival by helping with decorations and activities. The PA also assists with international celebrations and supports school initiatives that bring families together, including seasonal events and fundraisers. Parent involvement extends to supporting extracurricular activities and community-building programmes across year groups. The PA serves as a link between families and the school, encouraging collaboration and engagement. While specific details of PA committees and structures are not fully detailed online, the events and volunteer activities highlight its role in strengthening the school community.
The CDNIS Early Years Centre (EYC) serves children aged 2–3 in bilingual (English/Chinese) or international (English) tracks within the IB Primary Years Programme framework. Located at THE SOUTHSIDE in Wong Chuk Hang, the centre runs half-day Nursery (age 2) and EY1 (age 3) programmes. The bilingual model provides roughly equal exposure to English and Chinese, with dedicated teachers and a bilingual educational assistant in each class. Families will find clear operational details, including no bussing for EYC (bussing applies to the main campus only). Schoolwide, CDNIS offers a through-train IB continuum (PYP, MYP, DP), with over 2,100 students. Distinctive programmes include strong technology integration (1:1 devices and coding/robotics beginning in lower grades) and community engagement through Local & Global Engagement initiatives. Fees for Nursery and EY1 are published annually; in 2025/26 Nursery Half-Day (Bilingual) is HK$138,600 and EY1 Half-Day (Bilingual) is HK$156,300.
