Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

CSS was founded in 2006, with its establishment following the creation of the Creative Schools Continuum to provide a seamless pathway from primary to secondary education. The Creative Primary School and its kindergarten began in 1985 on Oxford Road, forming the foundation of the continuum. In response to Education Commission reforms in 1999 advocating educational continuums, the sponsor applied for a site for CSS in 2000, eventually opening in Tseung Kwan O. CSS and its sibling schools are run by separate school boards and are independent in management and finance.

Community

The CSS community hosts regular events and cultural programmes, such as joint anniversary celebrations, online art exhibitions, and creative showcases. Arts exhibitions (HKDSE & IBDP), winter arts showcases, and cross-school exhibitions are featured in the News & Events calendar. The community also values the notion of an “inviting school” culture and integrates experiential learning, house systems, and student leadership activities to build relationships within the school.

Parent-Teacher Association

The CSS PTA publishes a Chairperson’s message that emphasizes building close connections among parents, students, and the school, and organising activities to enhance understanding and communication. One of the PTA’s concrete projects is the classroom and common area refurbishing initiative, where the PTA led over 20 volunteers to upgrade furniture and learning spaces. The PTA also organizes community events: for example, the Welcome Party & “We Will Rock You” video premiere brought parents and students together with live performances and video premieres to kick off the school year. Through these efforts, the PTA acts as a bridge between parents and the school, fostering a collaborative and supportive school environment.

Creative Secondary School (CSS) is an English-medium Direct Subsidy Scheme secondary school in Tseung Kwan O. From Forms 1–3, students learn Hong Kong’s junior curriculum through the IB Middle Years Programme framework; in senior years, they follow the HKDSE, with an option to study the IB Diploma Programme in Secondary 5–6. The school highlights arts education, with regular visual arts exhibitions, and provides structured wellbeing and leadership through house tutoring, a Student Union, and student leader roles that include community service. CSS also offers the CLACH programme to deepen Chinese language, literature, arts, culture and history, and runs CALP to support academic English. Wah Cheung operates the school bus service across many Kowloon and New Territories routes, easing daily transport for families. Campus contact details and public transport options are listed on the site.
