ICHK Secondary offers Cambridge IGCSEs and BTECs in Years 10–11 and the IB Diploma Programme in Years 12–13. The journey starts in Year 7 with an Epistemic Apprenticeship that blends character development with academic learning. A 5+1 model of learning underpins the programme, with Enrichment & Flow classes introducing students to the ICHK Transcript. Since the first cohort, IB Diploma Programme students have scored above world averages and progressed to universities around the world.
In Years 7 and 8, Arts Carousel Curriculum covers art, drama, music, and media, and in Year 9 students select an arts elective from visual art, drama, music or media production. Drama is taught as theatre and performances are showcased rather than staged as traditional school plays. The programme includes annual showcases and has a strong track record at the Hong Kong School Drama Festival.
Language study is a strength, with strong Chinese, Spanish and Japanese curricula. Chinese immersion and an IB Preparation Camp support language development, and Kingston Chinese Programme provides additional support for higher-level Chinese. A Languages Guide outlines the language pathways available.
A broad Activities Programme sits in the timetable as a core part of learning, blending exercise, outdoor learning and creativity. The outdoor setting supports hiking, sailing, kayaking, cross‑country running and cycling. Students celebrate success in sport, creative writing, drama and performing arts, win major awards in the Hong Kong School Drama Festival and Super Language Competition, and participate in Model United Nations, Junior Achievers and Mathematics Competitions.
Deep Learning+ Week is an annual programme focused on learning outside the school environment, including outdoor pursuits, service work and teamwork. Cultural Exchange and a Chinese Immersion and IB Preparation Camp offer opportunities to grow language skills and IB readiness through immersion and exchanges. These experiences develop resilience, collaboration and a service mindset.
The House System (Ming, Song, Tang) fosters community spirit and leadership, with inter-house events that develop leadership and organisational skills. The Student Representative Council is the student voice, with elected members organizing activities and promoting adventure, environmentalism, and service. These structures provide ongoing opportunities for student initiative and project leadership.
Wellbeing and community are central to ICHK's ethos, with a safe mental and physical environment for students. Outdoor learning is built into the curriculum, and the campus enables access to coastline and country parks for physical activity. The 5+1 pastoral model supports holistic development, and Deep Learning+ Week emphasizes resilience, teamwork and service through outdoor experiences.
