ICHK traces its origin to a small group of parents who wanted a green, community-minded secondary school complementing existing feeder primary schools. In November 2008, the school was awarded the site of the former Sha Tau Kok Government Secondary School, and JIS (Japanese International School) and KIS (Kingston International School) joined as partners to establish ICHK. The school reopened in 2009 after major renovation of its buildings. Over time, ICHK has developed signature curricular and pedagogical innovations (e.g. Human Technologies, 5+1, Deep Learning) and has been recognised by Cambridge Strategies for innovation.
The ICHK community hosts numerous cultural, social, and service-oriented events throughout the year. For example, they organize a Community Concert at Mid-Autumn to engage local residents, students, and partner organizations in music and festivities. The school also runs Spirit Week, which features themed days, talent shows, and student competitions, helping foster broader student engagement. “The Happening” is another signature event for Year 7 students, bringing them together via hands-on, community-building activities and dinner. ICHK also partners with local NGOs: for instance, they host a weekend camp for SoCO (Society for Community Organisation) students, co-led by Year 13 students, as part of community outreach.
The school does not publicly label a formal “PTA” in its current materials, but parent engagement is active through Parent Voices and Parent Resources pages, which include guides, presentations, and wellness/empathy resources for families.
International College Hong Kong (ICHK) is a secondary school (Years 7–13) located in the New Territories, described by the school as “a world away from the bustle and crowds of the city.” Students follow Cambridge IGCSEs (Years 10–11), BTEC options, and the IB Diploma Programme (Years 12–13). The campus setting enables an activities program that uses nearby coastline and country parks for hiking, sailing, kayaking, cross-country and cycling, and the school runs an annual Deep Learning+ Week focused on outdoor pursuits, service and teamwork. ICHK highlights consistent success in the Hong Kong School Drama Festival, as well as participation in Model United Nations, Junior Achievers and mathematics competitions. The school states a small-class approach and operates as a day school with an extensive bus service across the New Territories and Kowloon. Instruction is in English, with languages including Chinese, Japanese and Spanish offered
