CKY was founded in 2002 by Po Leung Kuk as Hong Kong’s first independent, non-profit through-train school, built on a site previously occupied by the former Sir Robert Black College of Education. Its founding marked a new model of independent school within the Direct Subsidy / private sector. The school retained governance under Po Leung Kuk and commenced operations on Caldecott Road in September 2002. Over time the school developed its bilingual programme and expanded from early primary to the IB diploma years.
The CKY community engages in a full calendar of events, including parent–student workshops, festival celebrations (for example Mid-Autumn Festival parties) and student award ceremonies. The school calendar also features student e-magazines and photo-albums celebrating class-activities, music concerts, and sports tournaments, which bring together students, families and staff. Through these formal and informal events the school fosters regular interaction among parents, teachers and students.
CKY’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was established in January 2005 as a formal platform for parents and the school to communicate and collaborate. The PTA publishes its constitution and financial reports (e.g., 2021-23) and organises a variety of events such as General Meetings, parent seminars, Christmas wreath and tree workshops, and the “敬師日” (Teacher Appreciation Day) ECA event. It also runs volunteer programmes such as Parent Volunteer Kick-Off ceremonies and fund-raisers and works alongside the school’s serving committee elections to involve parents in the broader school community.
