Quarry Bay School was founded in 1925, making it one of the oldest primary schools within the English Schools Foundation (ESF) network. Originally established to serve the growing expatriate community in Hong Kong, it has evolved alongside the city’s educational landscape over the past century. The school moved several times before settling on its current Braemar Hill campus on Hong Kong Island. QBS remains under the ownership and governance of the English Schools Foundation, which oversees all ESF schools in Hong Kong. The school will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025, marking a significant milestone in its long-standing history of international education.
Quarry Bay School emphasises collaboration and community engagement across students, parents, and staff. The school hosts cultural celebrations, outdoor learning experiences, and visiting speaker sessions that encourage community involvement. Through extracurricular activities such as sports teams, music, and creative clubs, students engage in teamwork and shared experiences beyond the classroom. Partnerships with ESF Explore also extend after-school programmes in language, sports, and arts.
The QBS PTA plays an active role in strengthening the connection between home and school. It organises events such as seasonal fairs, community fundraisers, and parent social gatherings, helping to support school initiatives and charitable causes. The PTA also facilitates communication between parents and school leadership, representing family perspectives on key issues. It collaborates with teachers to run book sales, uniform coordination, and family activity days throughout the year. The association encourages volunteer participation and welcomes parents to contribute to school events and committees. Through these efforts, the PTA helps maintain a supportive and inclusive community spirit within the school.
Quarry Bay School (QBS) is an IB Primary Years Programme school on Braemar Hill, North Point (Hong Kong Island). The site confirms PYP authorisation since May 2010 and outlines an inquiry-based approach taught in English, with Chinese as the additional language from Year 1–6. Facilities and travel guidance are provided on the “Campus & Find Us” pages, including public transport serving Braemar Hill and a note about morning traffic in the cul-de-sac. Extracurricular life features “Keep Learning” (academic) and “Be Active” (sports) clubs, plus a Student Council with representatives from Years 2–6 who meet weekly and sometimes lead assemblies.
