The Independent Schools Foundation (ISF) was established in early 2000 as a registered charitable organisation and, in 2003, founded the ISF Academy as a non-profit independent school. Its initial intake in August 2003 began with 56 students in Grades 1–4 at a temporary campus in Wan Chai, followed by a second temporary campus in Causeway Bay. In July 2007, the school relocated to its permanent campus in Pokfulam, and in March 2008 officially marked its Grand Opening. Over time, the school grew to serve Foundation Year through Grade 12 under the governance of ISF.
The ISF Academy community engages through annual “Jam Day” events that bring together students, families, and staff to celebrate milestones and learning projects, and the school’s “Time Capsule” archive highlights community milestones such as the 10th and 15th anniversaries. Cultural and service-learning programs are woven into the student experience, linking families, alumni, and staff in collaborative projects. The community is often described as bilingual and bicultural, with students participating in local Hong Kong culture alongside international learning experiences.
The ISF Academy PTA provides a platform for parents to engage in the school community by organising events such as the annual PTA Family Day, themed speaker series (for example, “Walking Beside, Not Ahead: Parenting through the Secondary School Years”), and monthly “Parents Coffee Chat” gatherings. Sub-groups such as the Chinese Learning Support Group (CLSG) and English Learning Support Group (ELSG) support parents and students through workshops and forums. The PTA also hosts fundraising activities and “G5 Advancement Bake Sale” events to bring Primary and Secondary families together. Through its website, the PTA publishes Network News and invites parent membership via the school’s portal, enabling parents to access resources and register for volunteer opportunities.
The ISF Academy is a nonprofit, co-educational independent school in Pokfulam, Hong Kong, offering bilingual immersion in Putonghua and English. Secondary students follow the International Baccalaureate MYP (G6–10) and DP (G11–12); Primary uses the school’s own program. The campus has housed both Primary and Secondary since 2007. Language instruction shifts toward more English in the upper years (for example, G6 ~70% English / 30% Chinese; G9 ~80% English / 20% Chinese). Typical classes are small (≤20 in Primary; <22 in Secondary). Co-curricular options are extensive, from Engineering & Robotics and Math Team to Choir, Ceramics, Drama, and sports such as Swimming and Wushu. ISF is accredited by the Association for Experiential Education, reflecting a strong emphasis on experiential learning alongside programs like the Hong Kong Explorer Award. Daily school buses are provided via Kwoon Chung Bus Co.
