The high school program at AISB is based on an American educational model within an international context. English is the language of instruction, except in World Languages courses. The curriculum emphasizes knowledge, skills and dispositions with a global perspective to prepare students to flourish in a rapidly changing world. All students have access to a wide range of courses and pathways, and the school uses a 75-80 minute block schedule with about 200 minutes of class time per week for each course. Students can graduate with the AISB High School Diploma, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), or the AISB Innovation Diploma, and the IB Diploma is available to eligible Grade 11-12 students. Some courses offer university credit in certain offerings.
Arts are integrated into school life through exhibitions, performances and productions. AISB hosts Celebrations of the Arts where student artwork, music and movement are showcased for families. The school offers clubs and events in the arts, including performing arts opportunities and productions such as cabaret and school plays. AISB offers a range of clubs and activities, including debate, Model United Nations, robotics and performing arts, as well as service initiatives. Clubs are integrated into the regular school schedule to support student learning beyond classroom time. Students can participate in arts, technology, and service activities as part of a vibrant co‑curricular program.
Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) is part of the IB Diploma experience to develop student learning outside of traditional academics. AISB promotes community service and service initiatives as part of its programs. The school provides internships and collaboration with external partners to support project-based learning and real-world impact.
University counselors provide guidance for college and university planning and applications. Internship opportunities and project-based learning are emphasized, including pathways through the Innovation Diploma with internships and capstone projects. Leadership development is supported through student clubs, service initiatives and related experiences integrated into the school program.
Wellness and physical education are integral to the program, with options such as Lifetime Fitness that provide opportunities to participate in physical activities during the school day. Students earn Physical Education credits toward graduation, and wellness offerings include activities designed to support physical and mental well-being.
American International School of Budapest (AISB) offers an American Curriculum with IB Diploma and pathway for students aged 3–18. Students graduate with the AISB High School Diploma, the IB Diploma, or a combination such as AISB Diploma + IB Diploma or AISB Diploma + Innovation Diploma. Established in 1973 by the U.S. Embassy, AISB serves a globally diverse student body and provides the Global Impact Diploma and a Dual Diploma (GID + IB). The 16-hectare campus houses Middle/High and Elementary buildings, libraries, theatres, a design technology suite, and arts facilities, plus two gyms, a 25m pool, a theatre, and playing fields. Co-curriculars include MUN, debate, robotics, and Celebrations of the Arts.
