The British International School Budapest opened in 1992 with 18 students. It joined Nord Anglia Education in 2002 and introduced the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in the same year. The school moved to its current, purpose-built campus in 2004. In 2016, BISB opened its new secondary campus, with facilities including basketball courts, a theatre, a science lab, an all-weather sports pitch, and a Visual Arts Centre.
The school hosts a vibrant international community of students, parents, and teachers from more than 60 countries. It is part of the Nord Anglia Education family, contributing to a welcoming and inclusive environment. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is the beating heart of BISB's community. The British International School Budapest (BISB) serves ages 3 to 18 within a British international framework. The Early Years Foundation Stage through the English National Curriculum guides learning, with Cambridge IGCSE offered in secondary and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in the final two years. English is the main language of instruction, with Hungarian, French, German, Spanish and Mandarin taught across the school. The hillside campus overlooks the Buda Hills and provides modern facilities for sport, performing arts and science. EdTech is central to daily lessons, featuring robotics, 3D printers and digital collaboration. An Early Years Centre offers outdoor spaces and Forest School, while a theatre, music production studio, ICT and science suites support high-tech learning. The library houses more than 25,000 resources. BISB also hosts a Music and Performing Arts collaboration with The Juilliard School and participates in Nord Anglia Education programmes, international expeditions and leadership activities and opportunities.
