From its origin in the 1960s as the American Community School in a garage on Millers Road, BIS evolved into Bangalore International School. It was founded by Eloise R. Bennett and her family and established in 1969. It blends global education with positive social values and creative freedom to equip every student with life skills. The school follows a non-profit, parent-run governance model.
The BIS community emphasizes a caring, connected, and inclusive ethos with strong parent involvement. Alumni events connect former students with current students through reunions, panel discussions, and mentoring sessions; the First BIS Alumni Meet was held on Saturday, January 10, 2026. The BIS Alumni page notes ongoing events and a Calendar of Events for 2025-2026 to organize activities and celebrations.
