Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Wellbeing is prioritized at Glendale Academy. The school cultivates resilience, empathy and confidence through pastoral care and safeguarding initiatives. A Child Protection Cell oversees safeguarding and has designated safeguarding leads who develop policies and procedures to prevent abuse and to respond to incidents. Wellness Officers and counsellors support student welfare and promote a safe, nurturing environment for holistic growth. The Leader in Me Programme, a Lighthouse School accreditation by Franklin Covey Education, empowers students with leadership and life skills for the 21st century. Student Councils and the Student Lighthouse Team engage students in leadership, problem-solving and community projects.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Remedial Resource Room provides remedial education support for students with learning challenges. Individual or group instruction thrice weekly. Consultation between general education teachers and the Special Education teacher. Involvement of Special Education instructors. Modified Math Programme allowing learners to move at their own pace. Individualised Education Plan with modified content and style of instruction. Adoption of a structured phonetic approach. Focus on reading, written language, organisation, math, study skills or other basic skills. Collaboration among parents, teachers and remedial therapists. Additional support on long-term projects, term papers and tests. Inclusion classes based on our International Curriculum Framework.

Mental Wellbeing

Wellbeing is supported by Wellness Officers and Counsellors, who ensure a safe, nurturing environment and take proactive measures to protect students' welfare. The School Fitness Curriculum promotes physical and mental wellbeing through activities such as swimming, badminton, basketball and football. The Leader in Me Programme also contributes to students' leadership and life skills, supporting their overall mental wellbeing.

Safeguarding

Child Protection Cell has been established to safeguard children and safeguarding is a priority, with designated safeguarding leads who formulate policies and procedures to prevent incidents of child abuse and to respond when they occur. The CPC empowers children with age-appropriate information and skills in relation to child protection. Staff receive quarterly training on child protection, and students are trained on safety sensitisation.
