ISH was founded in 1981 under the trusteeship of the non-profit International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). It is administered by the ISH School Board with day-to-day leadership by the Head of School, under the oversight of the Director General of ICRISAT. The first Cambridge IGCSE exams were administered in 2003, and the first IB Diploma was awarded in 2007. ISH was the first Indian school to receive accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) and remains CIS and NEASC accredited; it is also the first in Telangana to offer the IB Diploma. It is an English-medium, co-educational day school for ages 4-18 with over 400 students from about 22 countries, Indian admissions are limited, over 34% of staff are international, and class sizes average around 20.
ISH has an active and engaged school community. The News highlights Holi celebrations and a range of school productions, and the library is a vibrant space with books and digital resources. The ISH Calendar lists events such as Pi Day, Swim Gala, and TEDxISH, along with conferences and other activities, reflecting a broad program of school life.
fISH is a 100% voluntary, parent-led organization that supports students, parents, and teachers at ISH. Its goal is to connect and unite the parent community and help maintain a strong school environment for our children. The 2025-2026 Executive Council includes a Chairperson and coordinators for Elementary and Secondary, communications, events, and treasury. Volunteer opportunities include a range of programs and events such as Mela, International Day, fundraising, family social night, Hyderabad Day tours, festival celebrations, celebrating students' achievements, workshops for students and parents, and parent clubs. BBQ and Family Sports Day are also among the activities.
