Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school creates a safe and positive learning environment and promotes student welfare on a day-to-day basis. Teachers are trained to provide a secure and supportive atmosphere for the physical and emotional well-being of students. All staff receive annual safeguarding training to protect children from abuse. Supervision of play areas during breaks and lunchtimes supports safe social interaction. Visitors report to the security office and wear badges to ensure a safe campus environment. Online behaviour is strictly monitored to protect students in digital spaces.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Learning Support Programme comprises a team of a Counsellor, Special Educator and EAL Educator. The programme promotes inclusive educational practice through collaboration among parents, classroom teachers and administrators. The Learning Support team uses collaborative teaching approaches to motivate the learner to reach their maximum potential. It provides students with skills and strategies based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to enhance learning. The school community is sensitized about the needs, strengths and challenges of learners and the programme recommends differentiation strategies for learning needs and styles.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English as the language of instruction is central to NESISM. The EAL programme is designed to support multilingual learners to access grade-level content and participate in social and academic conversations in English. Push-in and, in some cases, pull-out support helps learners access the mainstream curriculum. English is the primary language across the PYP, MYP and DP, and the preferred language of instruction is English. Hindi is offered as a compulsory second language, and French or German is available as an additional second language.

Mental Wellbeing

The school provides a secure and supportive atmosphere for the physical and emotional well-being of students. Teachers are trained to support students' welfare on a day-to-day basis. The environment and practices promote students' mental wellbeing. Policies and routines support a positive and caring school climate. Safeguarding training for staff reinforces ongoing attention to student wellbeing.

Safeguarding

All staff receive annual safeguarding training to protect children from abuse. A secure learning environment is maintained through CCTV, supervision of play areas, and monitoring of arrival and departure times. Visitors to the school must report to the security office and wear a badge; non-badge visitors are asked to show photo ID. Visitors are restricted to the areas where they have meetings and are guided by staff. Online behaviour is strictly monitored to protect students in digital spaces. Strangers will be challenged by staff to safeguard students.
