The Doon School is a fully residential school. The boarding Houses are Tata, Oberoi, Hyderabad, Kashmir and Jaipur, with two holding Houses named Foot and Martyn where new students spend a year in D Form before moving to a main House. Each House is led by a Housemaster and an Assistant Housemaster, with Tutors, a Dame, and support staff. The Houses have common rooms, computer rooms, linen rooms, recreation spaces, gardens, honours boards and Feast days. Life in the Houses forms the backbone of a boy's life at Doon, and the school runs a strong inter-house competitive system across intellectual, sporting, cultural and other pursuits.
The students' day starts with Chhota Hazri (chocolate milk) and biscuits in their houses. The three main meals are served in the Central Dining Hall for boys and staff, with mid-morning and evening snacks. Each house has a pantry stocked with milk and fruits, and a tuckshop opens twice a week for treats. A comprehensive and balanced menu designed with a nutritionist provides varied cuisines, and the Mess Committee meets to consider culinary requests. There are two house feasts each term.
The Doon School has five main boarding Houses: Tata House, Oberoi House, Hyderabad House, Kashmir House and Jaipur House, plus two holding Houses named Foot and Martyn. The House system is the backbone of school life; each House is a home and work space with a Housemaster, an Assistant House Master, Tutors and a Dame. The House Council, comprising staff and representatives from every form, decides House policy, activities and issues. Houses offer common rooms, computer rooms, linen rooms, gardens and feast days, reinforcing House spirit and identity.
The Doon School is governed by The Indian Public Schools Society (IPSS). The IPSS membership process is described on the school site and is connected to the governance of The Doon School.
