The Doon School maintains a teacher-student ratio of 1:8 and average class sizes around 25 in junior classes, reducing at senior levels. The curriculum spans a broad range of subjects with a principle of progressive and increasing choice. Middle School (Grades VII–VIII) uses a Doon-designed curriculum to build foundations in core subjects, critical thinking, and communication skills. Grades IX–X prepare students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), while Grade XI offers ISC or the International Baccalaureate (IB). Academic overview is provided by the ICSE, ISC, and IB Coordinators, the Middle School coordinator, the Dean of Academics, and the Deputy Headmaster, who report directly to the Headmaster. Reports are termly and parent-teacher meetings are held throughout the year.
Centre of Excellence (COE) including Music, Theatre, Art, Creative Writing, Public Speaking and Debating, DRAIS (Design, Robotics, AI and Software Systems) and Model United Nations forms the school's sustained arts and creative ecosystem. The Centre of Excellence for Theatre provides a dedicated theatre space, a year-long curriculum, artist-in-residence workshops, and regular productions. The Art COE offers interdisciplinary projects and a MAP partnership for internships and resources; Music expands to enhanced facilities for performance and creative work; DRAIS emphasizes coding, robotics and AI with mentorship and competitions; Model United Nations trains students in research, public speaking and diplomacy through conferences.
Global Languages offered include German, French and Spanish, alongside English Language and Literature, Hindi and Sanskrit. The Centre of Excellence for Public Speaking and Debating integrates public speaking into the academic program, while Model United Nations provides a platform for cross-cultural learning and global awareness.
Clubs and societies include Bharatvani and YuvBharati (Hindi Debate), Debating Society, Economics Society, Historical Society, Echo, IT Society, Maths Society Infinity, Nature Society Srijan Prayas, Poetry Society The Altruist, Quiz Society, Science Society Grand Slam, The Business Club Vibgyor, The Astronomy Society, and Yuv Arpan, with The Doon School Weekly among school publications. Midterm treks and expeditions blend outdoor learning with teamwork, including treks across diverse terrains and expeditions to Everest Base Camp; Doon pioneered the first school expedition to Antarctica in 2015.
The Doon School pioneered structured social service in 1935 and every student participates in community service as part of an integrated and experiential curriculum. Students undertake diverse projects in India and abroad through the Round Square association, including building, teaching and medical aid, with village and slum partnerships aimed at sustainable improvements.
The Centre of Excellence for Public Speaking and Debating embeds debating and public speaking in the co-curricular and main academic programme, with Artist-in-Residence workshops, curriculum integration, confidence-building, mentorship and weekly inter-school activities. The Centre of Excellence for Model United Nations offers regular training, conferences and collaborations to develop leadership, research, writing and diplomacy skills. The school provides a Wellness Centre, Boarding Houses and a Central Dining Hall as part of student life. Well-being and core competencies include Physical Education, Life Skills, and related health and resilience support within the curriculum. Outdoor experiences such as midterm treks and other expeditions promote resilience, teamwork and personal well-being.
The Doon School is a longstanding all-boys boarding school in India for students aged 11 to 18. It offers a multi-board curriculum with a bespoke framework: ICSE/ISC, Cambridge IGCSE, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in the final two years. In Middle School (VII–VIII) students build foundations in language arts, global languages, STEM, humanities, arts and well-being, with emphasis on independence, self-awareness, leadership and personal development. The school is affiliated to CISCE, IGCSE and IB, reflecting cross-board offerings.
