Bina Bangsa School began with the Kebon Jeruk campus in Jakarta in 2001, using the Singapore-based Cambridge curriculum. It has expanded to six campuses across Indonesia, including Balikpapan. The school emphasizes lifelong learning and a blend of Western education with Eastern cultural values. Founders and leaders include Surya Putra Subandi as Founder & President Director, Lie Ngian Keng as Co-Founder & Academic Development Advisor, and Paulus Sia as Co-Founder & Academic Development Advisor; Zenobia Subandi is Corporate Secretary and Lanrika Rusli is Operational Director. The Kebon Jeruk campus pioneered initiatives such as smart school projects, a Bilingual–Bicultural Studies Program, and the BBS Model United Nations.
Bina Bangsa School Balikpapan represents diverse cultures and ethnicities, creating a fun, friendly learning environment. Bina Bangsa School Balikpapan educates learners from 1 to 17 across preschool to secondary levels. The preschool follows the Singapore Kindergarten Curriculum Framework and UK Early Years Foundation Stage, and offers an integrated English–Mandarin bilingual programme for ages 2 to 6, with Mandarin introduced. Primary level uses the Cambridge Primary Curriculum for ages 5 to 11, with core subjects English, Mathematics, Science, Chinese and Bahasa Indonesia, plus Physical Education, Art and Craft, Computer Science, Life Skills, and Perspective/Project Work. The school adopts MAPS-IT learning—Multiple Intelligences, Authentic Learning, Project Based Learning, Seeds to Sow, Integration and Teach—alongside transdisciplinary themes such as My Self and The Natural World.
