Jakarta Montessori School provides a genuine Montessori experience for children aged 1 to 18 in Indonesia. The main teaching language is English, with Bahasa Indonesia taught to all students; in Pre-school this is informal, in Primary it follows the Indonesian curriculum, and in Upper Primary additional Indonesian lessons prepare students for optional national exams. Core subjects are taught with Montessori materials, building concrete understanding in mathematics, language, science, geography and research skills. Science is integrated across the curriculum, covering biology, geology, astronomy and archaeology, while students regularly use the library and Internet for projects. The campus is spacious and purpose-built, with dedicated facilities for Preschool, Toddlers, Lower Primary, Upper Primary and Secondary, plus a large farm area for hands-on learning. After-school enrichment, field trips and community projects supplement learning. Main teaching medium is English. Bahasa Indonesia is taught to all children; in Pre-school this is informal, in Primary it follows the national Indonesian curriculum, and in Upper Primary there are additional Indonesian language lessons in preparation for the National exams, which are optional. English Language develops reading and writing, with cursive writing introduced in Primary. Mathematics and Language use Montessori materials to make concepts concrete, building a foundation in geometry, algebra, logic, statistics, and arithmetic. Science is an integral element of the Montessori curriculum, fostering curiosity and problem solving. Geography covers world cultures and includes study of biomes, with topics spanning biology, geology, astronomy, archaeology and more. Students investigate individually or in groups, developing research skills and learning to use the library and the Internet. A day consists of uninterrupted morning work followed by activity sessions (Physical Education, Dance, Music, Art, Bahasa Indonesia, Religious Studies, PSHE, cooking, or working with Computers). There are additional after‑school activities, and field trips and local community projects supplement learning. Jakarta Montessori School has been educating children for more than 30 years and follows authentic Montessori practices.
PSHE is part of the curriculum. Students learn about their bodies, their emotions, how to cope with stress, and how to manage their time.
Developmental screening is conducted at the start of the school year. Toddlers and Early Childhood students are assessed by a paediatrician and child psychologists using the Denver Developmental Screening Test, while Primary and Secondary students are assessed using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Parents receive copies of the results, and in some cases follow-up therapies may be recommended.
The main teaching medium is English. Bahasa Indonesia is learned by all students. In Pre-school Bahasa Indonesia is taught informally; in Primary lessons conform with the Indonesian national curriculum; in Upper Primary there are additional Indonesian language lessons to prepare for National exams.
The school promotes physical and emotional well-being. PSHE supports mental wellbeing by teaching about the body, emotions, coping with stress, and time management.
Corporal punishment is never used. The school promotes and protects the physical and emotional well-being of students and staff. There are Missing Child procedures, illness and health policies, and COVID-19 safety protocols.
1. Proceedings begin with applicants completing enrollment application forms and other admission policies, including one free trial for new prospective parents. A pre-registration form with child and parent details must be completed at the outset, and the Administrative Manager will guide a tour of the facility so parents connect with the JMS Montessori environment and teachers. The Prospectus, school calendar, and class schedule are provided, and the Principal or Administration Head explains key elements of the JMS curriculum and the after-school programmes offered. The Administrative Manager presents the fee structure and admission policy, and highlights age suitability and the cut-off date for the child.
2. Fee policy: The Registration Fee must be paid before the child enters the school for the first time. It is a non-refundable one-time payment for each level. The fee structure will be provided to the parent on request.
3. Schedule A Trial: A one-day trial class is offered to the parent to determine whether the program is suited to the child's needs. The trial is conducted upon payment of the pre-registration fee. If the parents decide to enroll, the pre-registration fee is deducted from the registration fee.
4. Student Age Requirements/School Hours/Schedule: The school is organized into Toddlers (18 months to 3 years), Early Childhood (3 to 6 years), Lower Primary (6 to 9 years), Upper Primary (9 to 12 years), and Secondary (12 to 18 years). Hours are: Toddlers 8:30 AM–12:00 PM; Early Childhood 8:00 AM–2:30 PM; Lower Primary 8:00 AM–2:45 PM; Upper Primary 8:00 AM–3:00 PM; Secondary 7:30 AM–3:30 PM.
