The foundation of Nusantara Intercultural School (NIS) was officially laid on November 1, 2023. This significant milestone was marked by a formal groundbreaking ceremony officiated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, signaling the commencement of the campus construction. Underscoring the national importance of the project, the inaugural event was attended by key dignitaries and founding partners, most notably including Bambang Susantono, Head of the IKN Authority, alongside Phill Rickard, Chairman of the JIS Foundation Board.
Nusantara Intercultural School (NIS) is the first international educational institution in Indonesia's new capital city, IKN, in East Kalimantan. Situated in Sub Planning Area 1A, the school's development covers a 1,158-hectare site. NIS is uniquely managed by the Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) Foundation, bringing over 70 years of international education experience to the region. The project, which marked its groundbreaking on November 1, 2023, with President Joko Widodo, aims to provide educational options for the community moving to the new capital, including government employees and their families. A distinctive feature of NIS is its foundational role in the city's infrastructure, representing a direct government initiative to establish educational facilities from the ground up in a newly planned city. While specific curriculum details are still under development, the school's direct management tie to the JIS Foundation serves as its signature credential and unique offering.
