The UK National Curriculum serves as a framework for teaching and learning in the Primary School, which serves children aged 5 to 11. These years cover English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Computing, Art, Drama, Music, Design Technology and PE. A team of qualified English mother tongue teachers plans the curriculum and shares expertise for the benefit of all pupils. The aim is a broad and balanced education with wide opportunities for academic achievement through the extensive and creative curriculum and extracurricular activities.
Music is taught by a specialist teacher with an emphasis on singing, rhythm and reading rhythms. The older pupils participate in class and school performances during the year. Private piano lessons are available as extracurricular activities. Art lessons provide a dynamic, cross-curricular approach with drawing, painting, printing, collage and sculpture.
Italian language lessons are available as an optional program for native Italian children who wish to prepare for Italian examinations. The lessons are a maximum of five hours per week and extra work must be done at home.
After School Activities can be provided by the school and include extra fun creative activities, sports lessons on our football pitch and a homework programme where pupils have the opportunity to do their homework under the guidance of an English mother tongue teacher.
Physical Education teaches essential physical skills and aims to develop social, emotional and moral character. Pupils learn to share equipment, work with others, and follow simple rules; an element of competition is introduced as they grow older. After-school activities also include sports on the football pitch, supporting physical well-being.
