Language of instruction is English. Japanese language is taught in Elementary and Secondary at all skill levels, designed for native speakers and for students new to Japanese. English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is provided to help non-native speakers integrate into social and academic life, with both implicit and explicit language instruction and co-planning with teachers. In Grades 11-12, students are expected to be proficient in English to access the curriculum.
CA offers The Japan Experience, a one-year immersion program for Grade 9 or Grade 10 boarding students to live in Japan and engage with local culture. The program uses the IB MYP framework with a Japan-focused Humanities and English curriculum and includes organized trips across Kansai and other parts of Japan. Japanese language is available for all levels and supports the immersion experience.
Canadian Academy is a PreK–Grade 12 international day and boarding school in Kobe, Japan. THe school was founded in 1913 and is located on Rokko Island. The school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum from Pre-K through Grade 12, including the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes. Early Childhood includes programmes for 3 and 4-year-olds, with literacy and numeracy introduced in age-appropriate ways, as well as specialist classes that can include Japanese. Beyond classes, students can join activities such as Robotics Club, Model United Nations, science clubs and publications, alongside service clubs. For boarding, the school describes a programme for about 40 high school students from over 20 countries, studying in English while living in Japan.
